Brand Idea for my Advertisement
So, now we're onto the stage of our project where we need to think about what sort of product and brand I'm going to advertise. In the summer holidays I came up with a suitable idea, and to put it bluntly, would be a drinks brand. How my advert would go, is there's numerous men in a bar, all of them are these intellectual hipsters and there's one "normal" bloke. The barman asks them what they're having, and these hipsters say all these comical drink names such as "A dry hampstonbon with a splash of fine grain Mongoozle", whilst the normal bloke asks for "just a pint of [the brand being advertised]". The hipsters then laugh at the normal bloke, calling him un-trendy, uncultured or something like that. We then see the drinks arrive, with the hipsters obviously not enjoying their drink but pretending to love it, despite coughing etc. The regular bloke meanwhile is calmly enjoying his drink, and we see him do an eyeroll, a disapproving nod or something along those lines.
This advert would be a pathos advert as it appeals to peoples sense of humour. On Maslow's hierarchy of needs, this advert would come under the esteem section, due to the viewer feeling confident they have made a sensible choice by choosing the drink advertised, just like the man who ordered it in the advert.
As for the brand being advertised, I am uncertain whether I would select an existing brand or create my own. The type of drink could also be practically anything, most likely a soft drink, or perhaps an alcoholic one. I would consider coffee or tea, but a coffee shop or a tea room is the natural habitat of the hipster ;)
My target audience would most likely be adults, but if I opted for the soft drink option then it could also appeal to people of a younger demographic. As for the kind of adult, I'd aim for normal, non-complicated people, and the advert would be mostly aimed at males although there would probably also be some appeal to females.
